2012 Gold Rush Classic Judges: Jose Risso Montes & Rolando Garcia Bertoncini

Jose Risso Montes, Lima, Peru

Born in Lima, Peru in 1959, Jose "Pepe" Risso, has been involved with Peruvian Paso Horses with his family since his Great Grand Father who gave his Grand Father five mares as part of his inheritance, of which descendants became a Champion Stallion at the beginning of last century. His father had many Champion of Champion Stallions and Mares in Peru’s National show, and also national shows in the USA and Central America.

Pepe is an established breeder since 1982 and International Judge since 1985 judging the National show in Peru, Canada, USA, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, The Central Americano show, Ecuador, Argentina and Germany.

Today Sr. Risso owns around 30 horses and breeds in Lima, Peru. He’s married to Rocio Garcia de Risso and has two daughters and two sons that are very good riders and involve with the horses. His oldest son Jose Roberto, is continuing the family legacy with his own breeding & training program currently.

Rolando Garcia Bertoncini, Panama

Rolando García Bertoncini, panamanian, was born and raised around
horses and has over 30 years of experience with Peruvian Pasos.

For the past 8 years his ‘’Criadero’’ (CRIADERO MRG) has been the best National Breeder for the Republic of Panama.

Sr. Garcia is the only qualified Judge in Panama and the first and only non-peruvian individual recognized by the ANCPCPC (Peru´s National Organization) as a certified Judge. Certification given after 10 years of being a Judge, in Lima, Perú in 2007. He has been a member since 1990 of the US Peruvian Paso Association (now NAPHA) has participated in several International Seminars, including the I World’s Breeders Summit held at Lima, Perú in April 2005 as a guest speaker.

 He has been President of the APCPCPP (Panama) 3 times, and is a permanent consultant to this entity and member of the Peruvian Judge´s Committee for the ANCPCPP (Peru).
